Default What's the best age to start college??

What do u people say?? Some say the best time is to go straight into it right after high school and get it ova wid at a young age!! But seeing dat most college youths get jobs outside of their college degree do u realy tink its wise to go straight into college from high school.

Me personally, I tink going to college at like the age of 22-25 is a good time. You are a little more mature and more likely know what you want in life. U have tested out the job market after high school and if u don't like it, then go into college. If you like the job market then bypass college and stick in the job market. At that age, u most likely know what u wanna do in life. I feel dat right afta high school is a little too young to be going to college. Most people at dat age are playfull and are not too serious. They take stupid courses and get meaningless degress juss to say they got a college degree. Whats u peoples take on dis?????

I think most times it's best to go straight out of high school - IF - the individual is mature enough to really handle it. By that I mean they aren't just throwing money away because they aren't ready. I see some kids 18, 19 who are ready for college, and some who I think are more suitable for going to a trade school, or really find out what they like through working.

I do some volunteer work in my community, and when I talk to young people I try to just encourage them to know that there's not just one right choice. College is the best choice for most, but for some a better choice might be a trade school, or a job with a specific type of training. They have to know however, that if they start working the more income they have, the more they will have to pay out of pocket for college.

    ight then ..

I think some people push the image that only special people can be successful in college and it's the best or only way. There are various ways to get a higherlevel of education. ohwell,it all depends still.

Highschool suppose to prepare you for col,so anyone who completes HS should be able to enter the promise land and do well i would think.

So in someways it's best to go immediately after HS,when you are still in that "school" shape and discipline.

Its best to start in your 20s.. I started Univ when I was 17 and I wish I started in my early-mid 20s. Better to know what you want in life before you spend money and time.

You might not even need college to achieve yuh goals

Only if you are set in what you wanna achieve go right after school.. But it is very rare that at 17/18 you know what you want to do for the rest of your life. Get some experience in the real world first.

But I will always believe that 'Education is the passport for the future'

most ppl with degrees are only getting by..because they did degrees that dont worth shit..take gavin for eg.

specialised knowledge and the organised use of it is what make money..lets face it thats why we go to college in the first place..

so if you go to college make sure you are doing job specification studies..when yuh leave dont look for a job for life..mek some money and start a thing for your own..

contribute to your community and stop being fooled into becoming a servant for the oppressor

if capitalism is working for them..start mek it work for you

    THE EARLIER THE BETTER.

I KNOW THIS GIRL FROM ST. MAARTEN(SP) WHO STARTED UNIVERSITY HERE IN THE STATES AT AGE 16 AND GRADUATED AT AGE 20.

THE EARLIER YOU FINISH SCHOOL THE BETTER...NO NEED TO WAIT.

it all depends on the persons maturity level. If you can you should go right after high school. If you arent into studying like that go to community college first.

well i took 3 years off and I woulda probably failed out if i didnt - when i was 17 i was not ready for more school.. but by the time i went, i took it serious. ANYTHING you do in life will have much more value if you WANT to do it. NUFF freshman fail out and leave school or struggle for 3 more years to boost their GPA... sometimes waiting is not a bad idea... but do something constructive in the meantime - dont loaf around and do nothing...

yute.. yuh kool. you answer yuh own question.. going to college straight outta high skool not wise for most people (not all) cus yuh still ave that high skool mentality and yuh end up flopping. mi ah living example. di first time around mi flop. i was 19 and when mi did go. I knew this is something im doing by choice and If i choose not to go to class certain days, dat ah my choice. when yuh inna high skool yuh still under yuh parents laws. so yuh cyaan choose whether you wah go or not..
note: im refering to the kinda parents that care about their children. some ah dem dont care if you go ah skool or not.

but when mi did go college di first time, mi act like i was in high skool still. mi play hookey and nah do no homework and dem tings deh.. and mi flop out.. then mi kick back fi bout to years and get an apt and start to see di "real world" and no seh it not so sweet when yuh finally an adult. responsibility ah lick and ting. mi mind was inna "grown mon state" after while and mi decide fi go back and mi did a lock down every ting. mi mek dean's list and all dem tings deh..

and now this friday june 2nd ah mi graudation ceremony!

    SOUND DI BIG THING@@~!!!

p.s. every black person fi get a college education cah we nah let the white, asian, middle-eastern people left we behind.

    respect

Pro's and cons for each option...

A lot of companies offer tuition reimbursement for those that choose to work first...that way some graduates won't be high in debt once school is complete...

However, there are situations that if you choose to work for someone...and you don't have an education...your opportunity for growth in the company probably will not be good...

Actually, there isn't a specific age set and guaranteed as ''right age''. As someone with knowledge posted prior - when one is mentally ready.

Any age is good, any well educated individual knows that.

    As early as possible...

I feel it's easier to retain certain information and grasp certain concepts at a younger age and it gets more difficult as you get older.

Of course, everyone doesn't go fresh out of high school for whatever reason and that's fine too.

just realized... maybe in the USA it is different, but here - the first thing I was told when I sat in my first university class at 19 years old was ''forget everything you use to do in High school''

As for reference to memory, there is no proof that the memory of a 20 year old is better than a 35 yr old - ever asked a teenager or someone in their mid twenties what did they had for dinner 5 days ago? They might not know because their priority and long or short term memory storage depends on their interest.
As long as you are able to read and understand, are driven to succeed, sane and willing to gain/apply that knowledge - age doesn't apply.

reminds me of the idiot who claimed that kids must be conceived at a certain age or the childless individuals are useless...

I have seen several non-traditional students succeed...

and I have also noticed some do not grasp the concept as quickly.

I believe older students are more apt to succeed because of their maturity level, they are more focused...but that has nothing to do with how information is processed.

Dinner? Do we learn dinner? Or just memorize what we consumed. Anyone can memorize.

BTW I am not bashing older students.

Yep, I believe its betta to start college in ur early to mid 20's. Man, I went straight from high school to college at 18 and the shit from high school didn't help me a rass wid college. The college shit was on a totally different level. When I came to college I was lost. New state, Florida, where I neva been before and didn't really plan that shit too tough, financially. Juss was really trying to get the fuck outta my muda's house and college was the way to do such ting. I remember when I went to the orientation in college, a speaker said "look to the left of u, look to the right of you. In 4 more years half of those people will not be here, Half of dem wouldn't make it". Man, I saw nuff man from home come here, thought they was back home where u can smoke weed all day and do whatever and they end up flunking out. I see nuff yankee youths too in my freshman dorm dat afta sophmore year neva make it a rass.

Alot a dem was juss too immature for college. High school neva prepared dem for shit. I was a bit of a slacker myself because in high school I never came to school till 2nd period and was always late. Man, did dah shit ketch up wid me in college. I kept coming late for classes it wasn't even funny. I tink I would have done better off by coming to college in my 20's, having my money and mind set and den go at it from there. I juss tink the best ting is to wait a couple years before going to college. I know so much people dat coulda benefit from dat wait. Going straight outta high school can be tiring for some.

Same thing can apply to sciences etc. and even languages.

But, your age range does make perfect sense as you may have a better idea of your goal and you might take classes more seriously. But, again on the flip side your peers would not be in your age range which can make some things more of an annoyance than if you were at the same stage in life.

And dats anoda ting dats good wid going a little later as well. U wouldn't have the same peer group to engage wid. If ur older, u wouldn't really want to spend time hanging out wid younger kids which makes you more serious in ur school work.
