    Default Dub Fi Dub Rules

When was it that ONLY old tunes start play in dub fi dub at Soundclashes?

It seems to me that prior to '98 you could kind of play anything in the dub fi dub segment, I remember Rodigan playing dubs on the "Streetsweeper" riddim against Bass Odissey, I think it was '97 or '98.

Does anyone know who first made it a rule to only play foundation tunes in the 1 fi 1 and why it has stuck as a rule?

It is not about "OLD TUNES"... It is like...

REALLY REALLY BIG TUNES have to draw, and more times, them dancehall tune are the QUICK HYPE while some good old singing tunes have STAMINA, hence the reason they are more frequently used.

Besides, dub fi dub is your SAVING GRACE if you are about to get yuh ass cut... So you HAFFI FLEX MUSCLE... Elephant man nah go cut it

    The rule was Singers Only!

Since singer vs DJ ratio is lower today than it was 10 - 15 - 20
years ago, many use Foundation tunes.

There's more but kinda pressed for time........

Ok, Me know its more of a "BIG" tune thing or "Singers" rather than "OLD" tunes, but when did this start to be a rule? If you play a DJ in dub fi dub nowadays you may not get disqualified but your'e definately gonna get dissed and easily get boooed by the crowd..... I Lost the Rodigan vs Bass odissey clash I was talking about but I dont remember Odissey complaining about the dj tune's in the 1 fi 1....

meh agree wid P.D. if yuh lissen sum olda clashes all types ah tune used 2 play inna dub fi dub. Addies vs Bass O. 94 Squingy play Capleton pon sleng teng/Louice Culture"Ganga Lee"/Future Troubles"Kung-Fu" all inna dub fi dub b4 he play any singin tune. so even do me luv hear foundation tune play inna dfd if u hav an exclusive/new/big tune dan PLAY IT. 2 me it all depends on dey vibes inna dey dance.

Me never said dat Dj's should be allowed to play in 1 fi 1, I just wanted to know when it became obvious NOT to play Dj's.

    I Agree 100%.
Still, in the past Dj's could get you aforward in 1fi 1, now it would get you booo's.

I dont have a reason why they would boo a BIG DJ TUNE... Of course, if it is an Elephant Man Log-on in dub-fi-dub, I could tell you why ... lol

But on the real, A LOT of DJ TUNES have no substance, hence the BOO's...

Mi nuh sure a who chage the rules of dub fi dub.
But back in the days it was dub fi dub and you could play and dub plate ina you box. Now the man dem a call fi tune fi tune and It have to be a big tune.
No more DJ and jump up tune and then someone change the rule to see who can afford the biggest tune and play them.
Because before some sound use to cut some idiot dj with a hot tune and try fi win clash. Case in point addies vs balck kat. Tune fi tune, baby face draw fi Dirts Man " Mi come hot, mi come in wicked.
Addies get 1 bag a boo in a Biltmore, Balck Kat draw fi Culture " Selector see them a come, but BK a conqueror.

A so it a run now, to me it is better than before.

That's true, but funny cos he would play DJ tune if it fit him...yet dis another sound in a different dance if they played DJ tune under different circumstance. Just another way Trooper would psychologically outwit his opponents.

naw you need to go back farther than that when sounds like gemni and body guard ruled......ok the bodygaurd versus super saint 89 pure big artist in dub fi dub and lots of quality songs pinchers d brown anthony malvo colin roach sanchez alton ellis ...............it was where you showed substance over hype....so that is why now a days with the influence of hype one for one has changed a bit but it was a un written rule back in the day

Check 94 World Cup, out of the 4 tunes played in the tune fi tune (2 by each sound), 3 of them were dj tunes. And this was the big bad Addies and the foundation sound Saxon.

I remember in WC '99 Mighty Crown asked the massive if they wanted old tune or new tune before starting the dub fi dub, everyone asked for old tune. From then onwards I cant recall a clash with new tune in the dub fi dub.

Exclamation Rumours of War - Matterhorn Vs Mighty crown

Pure new dancehall tune played in the tune fi tune in this clash & to be honest it was a serious anti-climax. I was seriously disapointed that neither sounds dug deep to pull out them big dubs (which we all know they have).

Who gives a fuck if you play new or old tunes in dub fi dub. This is when you have to use your intelligence.

Trooper went new tune for new tune with Rodigan in 97.

    Rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are no rules if you play a tune and get a forward then so it goes. The crowd decide not people like Trooper.

BUt in a tune fi tune you have to draw for your BIG TUNES as stated b4

    Easy Now

Not sure what your point is, but the LYRICS to the tune he played were a direct counteraction to what Mighty Crown had just played.

Fuck new serial in the dub fe dub, and fuck a crowd that WANTS new tune in the dub fe dub.

Dub fe dub name BIG SELECTOR segment. That is precisely why Matterhorn's ass got booed the fuck out of WC '99 dub fe dub. He HAD no big tune. Early rounds are for new damn serial.

I was refering to what Nario said:

It's when trooper started playing on jaro the rule came in to plaY
seeing as he played an early nineties tune in W.C.99 it doesnt seem like a rule for him....
The fact that it was a counteraction to Mighty Crowns tune is a different matter.
